Notes to: Why We Fight
This was, I think, the first story I ever wrote that I was totally satisfied with. There's still a lot of room for improvement, but even so I like it to this day.
Glory Cheshire's first name is modeled after the virtue names that some of the Puritans gave to their children. She's a warchild, though, so her parents care about other things than "Chastity" or "Fear-God." Not all traditional Puritan names are out, though. I imagine that the following, among others, have a presence: Fortitude, Die-Well, Ashes, Tenacious, Felicity, Prudence, and even Remember.
Gygax Platoon is named after Gary Gygax. Chamber Regiment, without an S, was named after Robert W. Chambers. I imagine that alternate!universe versions of both these individuals fought in the war and did their Color proud.
Brahe is named after Tycho Brahe.
Any other names were made up on the spot.
God is indeed an officer in the war, but Jacob doesn't actually outrank Him.
Glory Cheshire is a member of the Green because of the setting wherein there is a cosmic force called the Green. I was planning on my Infinite War stories showing events only from the perspective of one Color and I didn't want people familiar with the other work to think that soldiers of the Green Army were all its avatars or anything like that. I wanted it to be obvious that they were just poor fools as much as the other Color's guys and girls.
The events of Atlantis were the subject of another story of the Infinite War, which I got about two-thirds of the way through but never finished. I'd have to do a major overhaul of the story if I were to ever go back to it but I think that the core concept is good. Incidentally, the Psycho was one of that story's main characters.
